- The planning stage occurs after the analysis stage
- Planning is stage where based on analysis report, the project milestones, work break down structure, resource allocation, schedule, communication process, budget allocation, risk factors, training and file management, and documentation planning is done
- The objective of planning is to execute the project in the scheduled deadline with value addition and quality
- There must be always three plans worked out for any project based on the risk analysis the three plans must be named as Plan – A, Plan – B and Plan –C. Based on the progress of the project, any one of the plans should be used at a single point of time
- The planning for any project must be done within 75% of the time committed to client, i.e., if the project’s turn around time is 100 days, then the schedule for the project is 75 days to complete the project (internal schedule).
- Schedule planning must be calculated always 8 hrs per day
- The Project Manager will create a different plan for the client, which will be projected using 100% turn around time from the client, which is called external schedule
- Planning is done using various tools like MS-Project, Visio and AMS
- Schedule Planning is done either on-site or off-site
- Planning must be done based on past experience, statistics of previous completed projects and anticipation.
- Planning a project involves PM, PL, HR, Finance Manager, System Administrator, and Visualizer
- The PM will make a presentation to all the top level management of the planning, explaining the scope, risk, schedule and back up plans
- The plan abstract will be approved by the CEO and BDM
